Urban Hatch is an online destination for expectant mothers or new mothers, and their partners, to feel nurtured and supported from bump, to birth and beyond.
With face to face and virtual consultations, bespoke preparation sessions with head midwife and Urban Hatch founder Sofie Jacobs, to online antenatal classes and real life meet ups with the Urban Hatch Family, our intention goes beyond helping you to ‘survive’ the trials of motherhood, and ensures that you thrive throughout your parenting journey.
Urban Hatch founder, Sofie Jacobs, was born 6 weeks prematurely and spent the first 3 weeks of her life in an incubator. She couldn’t wait any longer to meet her parents!
Sofie grew up in Belgium in a tiny farming community. Once she’d witnessed a cow give birth to her calf, she became fascinated with the physiology of birth.
Delivered her first baby under the watchful eye of Dr. De Roo. She was so focused on not dropping the baby that she forgot to note the time of birth or the sex. It was a boy!
Sofie moved to London to work as Staff Midwife at St. George’s Hospital. She describes delivering her first baby alone, without any supervision, as one of the scariest but most fulfilling moments of her life.
Sofie started to work as an agency Midwife and was sent wherever she was needed. She delivered babies at St. Mary’s and Chelsea & Westminster, to the Royal Free and Queen Charlotte’s, to the famous Portland Hospital – to name but a few!
As an agency Midwife Sofie found herself helping women give birth from every background imaginable, from prisoners to celebrities and anyone in between. She passionately believes every mother deserves strong support and excellent care during labour.
The opportunity arose for Sofie to move to Hong Kong and within a week of arriving she began working at a Midwife clinic. Still passionate about her midwifery work, Sofie started a small consultancy. Without realising it, this was the beginning of Urban Hatch.
The idea for the Urban Hatch online antenatal classes came about when Sofie was recovering from a snowboarding accident. Having time to think, she saw the need for a remotely accessible course to educate, empower and enable women and men, throughout their journey to parenthood.
After a lot of hard work, the Urban Hatch online destination was born.
